Why does the opening have to be measured in person?
Because walls are never truly plumb and tile is never perfectly flat, especially in older Fraser homes. We take measurements at several heights on both sides, and the difference between them decides how the glass is cut and how the hardware is set. Custom glass has no adjustment once it leaves the shop, so those numbers have to come off your real bathroom, not a phone call.
When should I schedule the measure during a remodel?
Once the tile is finished and the surfaces are done. Glass is one of the last items to go into a bathroom for a reason. If we measure before the tile is on, the opening changes underneath us and the panels will not fit. Call as soon as you have a tile date and we will line the visit up so nothing gets cut too early.
Can you install glass in a shower that has never had a door?
Yes, and it comes up often in Fraser's older homes where a curtain has been in place since the house was built. As long as the surround is sound and finished, we measure the opening, build the panels to it, and set them. Do you handle the tile or plumbing too?
No. Fortune measures, fabricates, and installs shower door glass, and that is what we are good at. Tile, plumbing, and steam generator work belong to other trades. If your project needs one of those, get it finished first and then bring us in for the glass. We will happily tell you at the measure what has to happen before the door can go in.
